Journey to the Centre of a Quilter

Join Jo Avery for a journey through her most iconic quilts in this book, which accompanies Jo’s Textile Gallery at Festival of Quilts 2025. Find out where she gets her ideas from, how she has developed such a distinctive style, and why you should set aside time to play. Let Jo guide you through four projects inspired by the featured quilts, including a mini temperature quilt, quirky cushion, cheerful Playmat, and a beautiful improv flowers wall hanging, which includes an exclusive Dream Bird! The book includes instructions on needle-turn applique, Freehand Foundation Piecing, and improv squares and curves. Jo also shares her thoughts on color, design, and free-motion quilting, as well as a whole chapter on Temperature Quilts.

About Jo Avery

Jo Avery’s lifetime of playing with fabric and yarn has culminated in a career as a textile artist and teacher. Jo’s natural affinity with colour and detail informs all her modern quilts, as well as a love of intricate techniques such as needle-turn applique and embroidery. Jo designs digital patterns, makes prize-winning quilts, and has authored four books. Along with Karen Lewis and Lynne Goldsworthy, she is part of The Thread House, an Online Teaching Academy.
